Wedge Shoes Making Big Comeback

Wedge shoes, those high heels with huge pieces of wood, cork, textile or other material filling up the normally vacant space between the toes and the heel are making a comeback. In the shoe business, today’s hottest trend is the wedge. From high school girls to business women, you see wedge shoes everywhere nowadays.

Wedge shoes used to be relegated to the back of the closet, much like bell bottoms, both considered relics of the 1970′s. But like most things in fashion, they have both come back in style, usually with a different twist. For bell bottoms, the equivalent these days might be flared jeans, which certainly aren’t as grotesque as some 1970′s vintage bell bottoms actually were, and certainly not as dangerous. If you lived long enough to wear bell bottoms, you might recall getting your pants stuck in your bike chain, should you have been unfortunate enough to ride a bike while wearing them.

Pamela Means, a shoe store owner from San Francisco, told us that wedge shoes started becoming popular last year, with a few celebrities making casual appearances wearing them. In popular fashion magazines, wedge styles are becoming more prevalent as well.
