What are the differences between a bicycle with a fork suspension and one that doesn't have the suspension?

Feb 13, 2008 by juhsepi | Posted in Cycling

Hoping you can help me in deciding what style of bicycle I should get. Currently, I'm between a Marin Kentfield and a Cannondale Adventure 5.

The Marin doesn't have the fork suspension. While the Cannondale does. I'm hoping to have a new

I'm assuming you mean front suspension. That makes all the difference in the world, if you ride dirt. Absorbs the shock from hitting the bumps and stuff. If you're just riding pavement, it's not that big a deal, unless you bounce off curbs alot. For that

Is there a way to buff out a superficial scratch on a carbon fibre bicycle fork ?

Jun 14, 2007 by | Posted in Cycling

I've got a long superficial scrape / scratch on my front fork . Is there a way to buff / polish it out ?

Hey, if it is just a superficial scratch on the clear-coat, just use a quality car wax made to remove swirl marks. I just use a good car wax and buff it out with a soft cloth. Works on my carbon fiber handlebars. Hope this helps. = )

My expander nut is trapped in the bicycle fork. Is my bike a goner?

Sep 28, 2007 by sriram r | Posted in Cycling

I was trying to adjust the stem height and ended up pulling the stem bolt out. Now when I put it back the bottom of the bolt does not reach the groove in the stem wedge/expander nut. Is there any way to get the wedge out/pull it up. I can reach the wedge

I've had this issue brought to me numerous times. The best way retrieve the stem bolt is to remove the front wheel, insert a steel rod into the bottom of the fork until it rests on the stuck stem bolt, then tap gently but firmly on the rod with a hammer

Carbon bicycle fork. How much abuse can they take?

Jul 18, 2009 by Noko | Posted in Cycling

I have a Trek FX 7.5 Hybrid/trainer and I'm looking at changing out the tires and doing some trail riding. Mostly hardpack dirt woodlands so nothing too technical. I am 200lbs so there will be some weight involved and there will be some curb sized bumps

VERY bad idea. Your biggest problem will be fork failure at the steerer tube... but that is only if you somehow avoid shearing off a dropout or cracking a fork blade.

Keep carbon fiber forks on the road unless you have spent the giant bucks

Harpeth bike race sheds new light on biking here

10.06.11

When 1,500 bicyclists swoop along county roads Saturday for the Harpeth River Ride, it will be little more than three months since an ardent cyclist was nearly killed in a traffic accident along Highway 96.

Hit from behind by a dump truck, 58-year-old Brentwood resident Michael Montgomery is still recuperating from surgeries needed to save his life. Though he’s alive, he still has months of recuperation ahead.

He says if there’s been a positive side to the accident, it’s that the incident has brought him closer to this friends and fellow riders, who called to offer him their support and donations to help pay medical bills. Montgomery’s civil case is pending in Williamson County court.

“I’ve just been overwhelmed by (support),” said Montgomery. “As (friends) have told other people, there have been other people who either committed me to their prayer list or donated money.”

News of Montgomery’s accident roiled many in Williamson County cycling circles. For some, the accident underscored simmering tensions between some cyclists and drivers about sharing the highway and rural roads that draw cyclists here.

Review by Jus1Dread (Aberdeen, SD) 2007-05-11
I purchased this bike a few weeks ago and there was no information available other than the same recycled product description on 50 different sites. So I figured it was important to add my 2 cents for potential buyers. I don't know what a $1,000+ ride feels like but for $300 I have gotten the road biking experience that I was hoping for. Review by Tejb Krahu (San Jose) 2010-06-18
Setup was too easy, an average Joe can do it in about 30 min. I weigh about 200 lbs. and there is no tire problems. Bike is very light and extremely fast. Recommended for urban commuting.
