Would there be a problem with me getting a different mountain bike fork?

Jul 29, 2009 by Kyle | Posted in Cycling

For my trek 3900 Disc. It comes with a SR-Contour Fork with 80mm worth of travel.

My question is could i upgrade to something like a Rock Shox tora with much more travel such as 100-130mm.

Im merely curious if it is going

As a vague rule of thumb, for every inch that you add of travel to your fork, you slacken the head tube angle by apox. 1 degree. This makes the bike more stable at speed, and a better descender. The downside is that it also makes it a little slower

Do I need horizontal dropouts or track fork ends on a fixed-gear bike?

Jan 10, 2010 by Ryan | Posted in Cycling

I'm interested in converting my mountain bike to a fixed gear. I read that I'll need either a track bike fork end or horizontal dropouts, whereas my bike currently has vertical dropouts. Would I need to weld a new fork end on? Would this be possible?

It is highly highly reconmended that you weld on some track dropouts like a bmx bike. It is possible to ride a fixie with vertical dropouts but that tend to lead to loose chain tension because you can't move the rear wheel back and forth. You'll want

Apr 23, 2008 by ivan_up_down | Posted in Cycling

besides common brands like rockshox, fox, marzocchi etc
what are other brands for mountain bike fork?
even cheaper brands like RST and suntour are alright.

The more standard ones are the ones you put: Fox, Marzocchi, Rock Shox, and Manitou.

They have very good products, and some entry level ones (Fox is different, they only offer high end quality).

Other companies are Cannodale

Product Recall: Civia Bike Racks by Quality Bicycle Products Pose Fall Risks

09.06.11

06/08/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Personal Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Bloomington, MN — Fall hazards have prompted Quality Bicycle Products and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to voluntarily recall carrier racks for mounting over the front bicycle wheel. The CPSC announced the product recall on June 8, 2011.

The product recall was issued after discovering that the bicycle rack’s mounting bracket can crack or break, which can cause the rack to fall onto the bicycle’s front wheel, posing a fall hazard to the consumer.

“This recall involves Civia Loring bicycle racks. They have black aluminum tubing with bamboo panels and mount to the bicycle’s front fork. The word ‘Civia’ is printed on the rack’s side panels,” reported the CPSC.

Consumers are advised to contact the place of purchase to receive a full refund or replacement.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact Quality Bicycle Products toll-free at (877) 311-7686 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit their website at http://civiacycles.com/aftermarketloringfrontrackrecall/.

White Brothers Forks – Bike Parts Outside The Ordinary | Article ...

by genwright

Some bike riders don’t ever think further than the dinner table when it comes to forks, and that is really the distinction between the experience of Lance Armstrong and the cluelessness of a third grader on his first bicycle. If you think a fork is something you eat with, then you may not be ready for advanced mountain bike travels. But even in a community of intermediate to advanced knowledge, certain oversights can be made with regard to bike forks. This small yet vital part of a bike’s suspension is too often taken for granted. That’s where the White Brothers come in with a specialty line of forks that really help a mountain biker feel the difference.

Trying these out to see how advanced they really are, there are two areas you will want to focus on: how it handles more challenging terrains and how it copes with the rush of downhill. White Brothers Forks are certainly built for the challenge, featuring a laundry list of features that promise big results, but how are they with actual performance?
