Will this Tiagara triple crankset work with an 8sp system?

Oct 20, 2009 by 2DizzyLizzie | Posted in Cycling

Would this crankest work with an 8 speed drive train, dérailleurs and shifters? Model Shimano Hollowtech TIAGRA 52/42/30 SILVER OCTALINK 9 / 10 SPEED 170mm cranks

Here is the like to the item (the description is in French)

Yes, it will work. Cranks aren't as speed-specific as some will make you believe.

This is the old style Tiagra crank that uses the Octalink bottom bracket. You would really be much better off with a current production Shimano crank that

Will a 9-speed front derailleur work with a 7-speed cartridge?

Jul 05, 2009 by Paul L | Posted in Cycling

I need to replace my front derailleur. It is for a triple crankset, and I have a 7-speed cartridge on the rear. I can't seem to find any front derailleurs compatible with 7-speed cartridges. Will a 9-speed compatible front derailleur work?

9-sp front derailleurs (FDs) are designed to function ideally with 9-sp chains.

9-sp chains are narrower than 7-sp chains. 6.8mm vs 7.2mm

9-sp FDs have a narrower cage to enhance shifting with the narrower chain for which

Can you help me upgrade from an 8 speed to a 9 speed?

Aug 31, 2006 by Batmen | Posted in Cycling

I have an 8 speed allez. looking to upgrade to a 9 speed. I have the Ultegra triple crankset and bracket. What exactly should I buy to further upgrade? What type and model shifter will I need? Will a 105 be sufficient? Which model #? Also can you

I think, because the chain is narrower, you need both derailleurs, the new casette, and , of course, the chain. Is the triple that you have a nine speed? If not, you have and can try it, but the rings might be too far apart or the teeth too thick. if

How do End Bar Shifters work? ?

Oct 23, 2008 by david | Posted in Cycling

How do Bar end shifters work? Do they adapt to the crankset and the cassette? Or do you have to by the right gear ratios? Do you have to set them up to equal your crankset and cassette? EX: Triple Crankset- 8 speed cassette-this is what i need. Can someone

Most modern bar end shifters (or "barcons") can be operated in either indexed or friction mode. For indexed rear shifting, you'll want to match the shifter to the cassette.

Front shifters don't have index capability. Friction

is it possible to remove one or two of the rings from my triplering mountainbike crankset to use a chainguide?

Apr 28, 2010 by Sam C | Posted in Cycling

i have a truvative triple ring crankset, and i would like to use either an e13, or gamut, etc guide. is it possible to remove the inner ring to do this? and as a last minute thing, would i be able to use the outer ring as a makeshift bashguard for the

Before you get one, check if your bike has ICSG tabs. Look it up online or get a bike shop to check for you. E*thirteen LG1 is one of the best chainguides out there. If you are worried about which rings to keep get a taco guard with your chainguide.

They also did my cleat alignment. I pronate so they put in a couple of shims under each cleat, aligned the cleats correctly and put in some Sidas footbeds to compensate for the pronation. I'm convinced that this is the adjustment I need to be making. I currently use Look Keo pedals with Red (9 degree float).

After a few outings on my bike, I made some adjustments to the distance between the seat to the stem by shortening the stem and changing the handle bars so now it's 55/68 which is much more comfortable for long distances. I may not get the power that I had as the ideal set up but I can go long distances. All the other measurements are the same except that I have raised the saddle by 0.5cm in the last 2 weeks as I felt it made it easier on my knees/got less lactic burn going up steep hills, but that will obviously have no effect on the problem I've been experiencing over the last 2 months.

Is there anything I can do to improve this before July?

That's What She Said About Your Bike: TOP NINE: Cyclocross Bikes ...

by Josh, Gear Reviews

We're only a week into August, but cross season comes at you fast in the US. If you have plans on giving cyclocross a go this season, the time to grab a bike is now if you haven't already. While we're getting sneak peaks at 2011 bike models, they are probably going to be tricky to get a hold of, so over the next few days, I'll be cruising through different price ranges of 2010 model cross bikes, starting with the under $1000 range. Also, due to a lack of bikes in this price range available, this is more like a top six list. 6. Redline Conquest Sport ($730) : If you have heard news of the Redlne Conquest recall, there are no worries here. The recall only affected the Conquest, which is one tier above this Sport model. Aside from buying a used bike, this is your most economical way of getting into the cross scene at $730. The bike runs on Shimano's 2300 8spd group, which works just fine, but will have some bigger jumps between gears in the low range. Its pretty sweet that...

The triple triangle part of the frame design, a token nod to GT's history, allows for big mud clearance between the seatstays and extra bracing rigidity for the rear triangle and top tube. Variously shaped frame sections also add stiffness to assist in
