CALGARY — Terry Fox's shoes and Marilyn Bell's swimsuit are out of the boxes.
Kathleen Heddle's rowing singlet, Alex Baumann's swimming medals and Clara Hughes's bike are prepared for display amid the sound of hammering and sawing.
Canada's new Sports Hall of Fame will open July 1 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary after years of existing virtually.
Three truckloads of artifacts in sealed boxes have travelled from Toronto's Canadian National Exhibition grounds where they've been in storage.
"It was quite fun to see what was coming out of the boxes," the hall's president and CEO Claire Buffone-Blair said Thursday.
The 44,000-square-foot building has 520 honoured members and over 1,000 artifacts for display.
"That is a small, small fraction of what we have in our collection and we're busy every day acquiring more artifacts," Buffone-Blair said. "Now that we're an operational facility, that's the business we're in, acquiring great artifacts."
