Can I put mountain bicycle tires on a hybrid bicycle?

Apr 27, 2007 by youKnowMe | Posted in Cycling

Hi, I have a hybrid bike (it looks like a mountain bike, but has narrow tires).

The bicycle cannot support my weight (I'm 180 lbs). In fact, that's the reason the past owner sold it (But then again, he was over 220lbs...).

180 pounds is not that heavy. If they rear tire is compressing when you sit on it, it is likely because you do not have enough air pressure in the tire. I suspect the tire takes 80 or 90 pounds of air. Go to a bike shop and have them properly inflate

Are tubeless bicycle tires less prone to flats than regular tubes-tires for a Mountain bike?

Sep 12, 2008 by growbig1 | Posted in Cycling

No, they aren't......except that the sidewalls are thicker and thus help to prevent pinching when bottoming out the tire against the rim at lower pressures/sharp impacts.

The main advantage of tubeless is avoidance of pinch flats (with

mountain bicycles tires?

Apr 29, 2009 by sechott | Posted in Cycling

I have a Felt NINE elite 2008 the frame fits me fine but the height is a bit too big since it has 29" wheels. Would it be a bad idea to mount a set of hybrid tires to the original rims on this type of bike? That would make the bike's top tube over

lowering the bikes standover by changing the tires wont help much. It sounds like your frame is just to big.

well if the bike fits, it may just take a while to get used too. you have to steer 29ers a bit more and getting used to the new

Why do mountain bicycles use wide tires, while racing bicycles use narrow tires?

Nov 29, 2007 by LaurenD | Posted in Cycling

Racing bikes have narrower tires for less drag/resistance. Less drag/resistance= more speed/efficiency.

MTB need wider tires to get better off-road traction.

Traversing a Foreign Border Domestically

09.06.11

Mtfrontdesk@mountaintimes.com

Editor's Note: On May 12, Boone artist Joe Bigley commenced his most ambitious project yet: Traversing a Foreign Border Domestically. Having mapped a course in the continental U.S. that follows the border and contour of Afghanistan, Bigley will bicycle the entire length of the Afghan border - 3,435.5 miles to be exact.

"Essentially, (the trip) is to highlight the peculiar nature of political boundaries," he said.

Along the way, he'll record dialogues with those he encounters and deliver presentations at various contemporary art venues. Bigley is also submitting his travel experiences for publication in The Mountain Times, and they'll appear regularly as they arrive.

After the long day leading me to Loganton, Penn., and having the luxury of the cabin offered up by Anne of Holiday Pines Campground, they offered me to stay another night in the cabin to rest.

Overwhelmed by the generosity, I respectfully declined, but she

Tires and Wheels designed for Mountain Sport bikes | Atlanta

by admin

Mountain cycles possess certain varieties of wheels, that are actually designed (and also employed) in another way as compared with say, road bicycles. These usually occur found in 3 measurements, 24 inch, 26 inch, and 29 inch. 26 in . wheels tend to be by far the most widespread, although during recent years 29 inchers are achieving level of popularity.

The majority of mountain bicycle wheels use inner tubes, though tubeless wheels happen to be achieving both attractiveness along with respectability. The strengths involving tubeless wheels tend to be that they happen to be a good deal more adjustable, permitting much better traction, as well as they are actually not as likely to puncture (while clearly not exempt to it). These also offer you far better shock absorption.

You would require wide tires with respect to really serious mountain cycling, simply because the wider the wheel is, the far more contact it has got with the ground, and so the added control.

Yet another thing to have in mind is the kind of tubes it comes with. Mountain bicycles might have either standard tubed tires, or perhaps the more modern tubeless tires. Tubes have been round for a long time, and are actually the old stand-by. These are low cost and comparatively easy to switch. Tubeless tires, nevertheless, deliver a number of plus points.
