I'm buying clipless mountain bike pedals and shoes. Should I splurge more on the shoes or pedals?

Feb 07, 9852 by dankmaster24 | Posted in Cycling

I have limited funds (less than $120) and I would like to buy a set of clippless mountain bike pedals and a pair of the "performance" style shoes. What is more important, nice shoes, or nice pedals? Which should I splurge more on?

why would you want to splurge on anything

Is it possible to use mountain bike pedals on a road bike?

Apr 11, 2007 by ob_right | Posted in Cycling

I'm cheap and looking to use one pair of shoes for both my ATB and my road bike. I don't have the shoes yet so any suggestions on that would be cool too.
Thanks.

Yes, Shimano makes some shoes and clips that would be compatible on both. The important thing is the clips. I tried to be really versatile with my first ones and the clips even fit the pedal at my gym for "spinning" classes. Now that I've

Are clips for mountain bike pedals safer than old fasion pedals?

Aug 21, 2007 by Brian D | Posted in Cycling

It seems to me that clips would prevent the rider from quickly putting their foot down to prevent a fall.

You get used to them very quickly, and they do have advantages in cadence, and efficiency when you pedal. Staying connected to the pedals can offer some addtional stability and "oomph" when you are rock hopping or clearing obstacles.

Sometimes after shifting gears on my mountain bike, the pedals will just spin? What could be causing this?

May 15, 2008 by Dan P | Posted in Cycling

The only things I could think of were the hub or the cassette. This is an older Haro mountain bike with a 7 speed cassette. Any ideas?

Thanks.

If the problem comes and goes...fixes itself when it happens...and if you're not hearing horrible gnashing of gear teeth as the chain slips across the cogs...then the problem is most likely that your freewheel needs to be lubed or replaced.

Difference between Mountain Pedals and Bike Pedals?

Apr 18, 2007 by Jayne | Posted in Cycling

I will primarily be using my bike on the road in triathlons but heard mountain clip-less pedals are more comfortable. What is your opinion? I would like to know the main differences between both and what you prefer.

For ease of in-and-out, nothing beats the Crank Brothers 'Eggbeater' design. And if all you use is the eggbeater style (instead of the 'Candy') ... there's nothing much there in the way of weight either.

I use Eggbeaters on both my mountain

Mountain Biking and Trail Riding : Types of Mountain Bike Pedals

Roger Phillips: Mountain biking can be an uphill grind, but worth it

07.02.82

Wow. That felt good, and it was still early in the biking season. Spring riding usually means climbing is a suffer fest, and my heart thumps like the bilge pump on a sinking ship.

What happened?

For one, I wasn’t coming off my usual three to four-month layoff from the bike. I rode throughout the winter.

It wasn’t because I had a brilliant burst of motivation. My riding buddy, Jesse Taylor, is racing this year and wanted to maintain his fitness over the winter.

He invited me along on his training rides, and I discovered cold-weather riding is not an exercise in masochism.

After I learned how to keep my fingers and toes from freezing, it felt surprisingly normal and a lot more bearable than hot-weather riding.

When the (relatively) warmer spring weather rolled in, I was in better shape than normal, so I was cranking out more dirt miles.

Mountain biking can be a brutal sport. If you’re a trail rider, it inevitably involves climbing, and those hills are unsympathetic.

The Right Mountain Bike Pedal Parts | garymd.com

You would want to have the best riding experience with your mountain bike. By all means, trail riding is not what it’s supposed to be when there’s no excitement and enjoyment. Your mountain bike pedals have a lot of say on this. This means you have to choose your mountain bike pedals and mountain bike pedal parts because they determine the kind of ride you will have. What are the three kinds of mountain bike pedals?

The most popular type of pedals among riders are clip less bike pedals. This kind of mountain bike pedals allow the rider to get off easily from the bike. It gives added convenience when stopping or resting by putting the foot down. The second type, cage bike pedals are often found in non- branded and cheap bikes. Experienced or professional mountain bikers often do not prefer the third type of mountain bike pedals. These are called platform mountain bike pedals, and they are not ideal for races or riding on treacherous terrains.
